These Top Tech Tips<\/strong> are some of the things we’ve used when setting up our Cloud VPS servers running Webmin<\/a><\/strong> on top of Centos 7<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Creating a new users is essential if you want to avoid always logging in as root (best avoided for security and so you don’t risk damaging your system).<\/p>\n

To create a new user in Linux, at the command line enter:<\/p>\n

[root@server ~]# useradd newuser<\/div>\n

– where ‘newuser’ is the username you want to create.<\/p>\n

To check that the new user has been created successfully:<\/p>\n

[root@server ~]# cat \/etc\/passwd<\/div>\n

The last line should read:<\/p>\n

newuser:x:1001:1001::\/home\/newuser:\/bin.bash<\/div>\n

You can set the new user’s password with:<\/p>\n

[root@server ~]# passwd newuser<\/div>\n

and then enter your chosen password.<\/p>\n
